Índice de Desarrollo Económico y Social: verificando los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible en los asentamientos maranhenses
Abstract
This article analyzes the application of the Economic and Social Development Index (IDES) in the Settlement Projects of Maranhão, Brazil, addressing the challenges and opportunities identified in light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The IDES, composed of dimensions such as income, education, health, sanitation, and leisure, was used to evaluate the socioeconomic development of 16 settlement projects, with data collected from August 2022 to November 2023. The results highlight regional inequalities and emphasize difficulties related to land regularization, basic infrastructure, and access to essential services, affecting primarily the dimensions of income, health, and sanitation. The analysis links local conditions to the SDGs, emphasizing poverty eradication (SDG 1), good health and well-being (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10). This study underscores the importance of integrating regional public policies with global goals, proposing strategies to promote sustainable development and social inclusion. The approach presented aims to contribute to the planning of more effective interventions in rural settlements, aligned with the SDGs' guidelines and the needs of local communities.
