Abstract

The following article surveys the relevant literature for the study of the determinants and constraints of bargaining power and its capacity to influence real wages. Accordingly, the notions of real wage and nominal wage, their connections and differences, as well as their particularities from both a theoretical and an empirical perspective, will be developed. This theoretical analysis is carried out by contrasting the main tenets of classical and marginalist theory. Furthermore, conclusions from the structuralist school are incorporated into the discussion to contextualize the external constraint as a limit to growth in the debate. Finally, some conclusions from research specifically focused on the Argentine case are explored.
